June 24, 2005 I dont know if these emails get back to Neil or not...but either way! I was in the crowd at the 'Last ever Rutles gig' on 14th June at the Brook in Southampton, and i thought i would just email to say that its the best gig ive been to in ages! I had an excellent time and didnt want it to end! And Neil came out afterwards and signed my Rutles 7" which made me very happy indeed :D. So thankyou very very much for a wonderful evening! Please come back to Southampton soon!! From a very appreciative fan, Chloe X Yes Chloe, Neil does look at the emails we post here, and I know he appreciates them all! ~ Bonnie |
From a fan from the Netherlands since the 70's i'm a fan of your music, be it with the bonzo's, the rutles or your early solowork. I once did see the bonzo's in amsterdam in paradiso (with the robots of roger ruskin spear), i once saw a sort of spin-off, called the Bob Kerr Whoopee Band, i think feat. legs Larry and, to my great pleasure, I saw you giving a fine concert in Amsterdam in De Kleine Komedie, must have been in1985. The combination of great music and very funny humour has always given me something more to live for: some sort of optimism. A great experience was when i was on holiday in Wales, 1998, i met another Dutchman with whom i sang lots of Bonzo-songs, while doing the dishes. It was very funny singng e.g. Ali Baba's Camel (without using "lots of LSD"). While writing this, I'm listening to yout cd Taking off/Book of records. It's a fine record. Leo Willemse |
June 20, 2005 Just to let you know how much I enjoyed the Rutle gig at the 100 Club in Oxford Street, the support act was not bad either. Norbert It was really only the final tour using the name Rutles. Neil hopes to be touring for many years to come! ~ Bonnie |

June 12, 2005 How about an AMERICAN Rutles farewell tour ??? - CHEERS ! neil - we spoke in 2003 at beatles fest. I mentionmed that I had been using "MUSIC FOR THE HEAD BALLET" as my theme song on my radio show from 1980-1997, and I am proud to say, I am back on the air again - same theme song, too ! - Randy in NJ - |

June 10, 2005 Dear Neil ( & the boys)
Just a quick note from one of the many VERY happy old Rutles fans in the crowd on Thursday night. I only heard about the farewell tour yesterday......( v sad news , btw ) Fantastic , lovely, great , Magical , funny , all my favourite songs .......sang myself hoarse Sorry I missed the first half hour of the "support" bit.....did you play "Protest Song" ?....guess I missed it if you did....CHIZZ !!! Wonderful evening - wouldn't have missed it for the world. I first picked up a guitar, wanting to play "I'm the urban Spaceman"......the rest of my musical achievement evades history.... Thank you for being an inspiration.
Nick

Your site is Fantastic! Much respect! Hi! Will |
Thank you for the many songs and laughs i just wanted to let you know that your continuing contribution of the Rutles puts a smile on my heart everytime a new CD or interview or anything else that is related comes about. My brother had a best friend between 1984-1991 that introduced him to the Pre Fab Four and have been in awe ever since. However in 1991, his best friend committed suicide. I loved him like my own brother and is truly missed by all he has touched. So when ever i put on Let It Rut or Archeology...it brings me closer to him. So if you truly ever get discouraged about anything you have lost in your life put on the Rutles and i guarantee that the Rutland beat gets your funny bone smiling again.............it hasn't failed mine! Thanks again, Denise

Concert in Portland I was one of the lucky ones in Portland to see Neil's performance last night. It was really uplifting considering the frame of mind I've been in since the election. I've been a fan since the 70's when I systematically bought every Bonzo Dog album I could find and then went on to buy the solo albums and of course the Rutles. I'm a piano player and a composer of simple melodies and Neil's playing has always been an inspiration to me. His songs have been running through my head so long they are part of my consciousness by now. (Not sure how to make that point, hope you understand.) Anyway seeing and hearing "How Sweet to be and Idiot" in performance meant a lot to me. Thank you for coming to Portland, Neil. Your timing could not have been better. Good luck on the rest of the tour. Patrick |
Wonderful show in Greeley I saw Neil at a very tiny theatre in a very tiny town in Colorado, USA, this past Saturday. Neil put on a fab fab show & then hung around for an hour afterwards to schmooze with the audience. I was enthralled! He signed 7 different things for me & posed for a photo & really conversed. If he or anyone close to him reads this, please convey to him my heartfelt thanks for a super wonderful evening! I was the guy in the Firesign Theatre vest who was in the ROBOCHIC film with Phil Proctor. You must see it to see me as Gimp, the Satan's Onion!! Again, thanks for the music and laughter -- a winning combo in any book! I've been playing my new Recollections CDs & will watch for the new release. Still high from this past Saturday, I remain,
All the ills of mankind, all the tragic misfortunes that fill the history books, all the political blunders, all the failures of the great leaders, have arisen merely from a lack of skill at dancing. |
A HUGE fan in Buffalo, New York Hi Neil, I saw you last week at the Tralfamadore Cafe in Buffalo, NY. What a show!! I definitely met one of my heroes!! I have to thank you for being so gracious. You signed all my CDs (including the first "Rutles" CD - I half-expected you to spit on it after all the b/s those jerks put you through over the publishing!), talked to me and my sister, Annie, for about 5 minutes about a lot of different things, and were just so humble and appreciative. I can't say I knew what you were like - and who knows what "celebrities" will be like until you meet them - but you were so much cooler than I could have hoped for! How often do you meet one of your heroes only to find out they're a prick, you know? But you were just great, an absolutely terrific guy. And not to mention a wonderfully talented singer/songwriter and performer. And the show was fantastic! I'm sorry it wasn't a bigger crowd for you, but I can tell you those of us who were there enjoyed ourselves immensely, and won't ever forget the experience. And I know several of my friends who are fans of yours wanted to go but had family commitments. They're all jealous now, of course, after hearing me rave about the show!! Even my kids (Ages 9, 5 and 2) are jealous of not being there, b/c they love "The Rutles" and "The Holy Grail" almost as much as me. (I also signed up at the Buffalo show, but my handwriting is so bad I want to make sure you have it!) And I also wanted to thank you for being such a nice guy. I think that was the most-amazing thing about the show, you hanging out at the end of it, signing everything put in front of you, and being just as gracious to the next person in line. I hope to meet you and your lovely and gracious wife again sometime. Best of luck with everything! Take care, PS Great web page!! Nice links to everything, and very easy to navigate. PPS Very much enjoying the new CDs!! I only had Rutles CDs (both of them) before the show, so I bought your 3 compilations. They're terrific!! And, of course, now signed by one of my heroes!! |
Thanks for a wonderful evening... Neil, Steve Omstead |
Also, be sure and stop by the message board. It's been really hopping lately!
